FAQs

The stages of medical education in the US are the following:

  • Get a college degree, best in a subject that already prepares you for your later career like natural sciences
  • Pass the MCAT exam and get into a medical school
  • During and after medical school, pass the board exams
  • Complete residency in your chosen specialty
    Pass your final boards

The short answer is, it depends on the person. Medical school is like the feeling you had before you learned to ride a bike or make new friends. It looks daunting at first, but once you get into the flow of things, you will find most of it is quite manageable.

A typical medical school curriculum starts you off with the basic sciences: Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, etc to build a solid foundation and understanding of the human body. After that, you will go into the mechanisms of illnesses and medications in Pathology, Immunology, Microbiology and Pharmacology. Moving on to clinical sciences, in your third year you will dive into subjects like Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Surgery, that you will learn to apply in practice in clinical rotations.
